Philosophy & Approach

Part of the reason I love my work is because I love meeting new people. As a therapist, I love learning about the lives of others and helping them find the best ways to face difficult situations. I believe true progress can only be made in a place of safety and kindness; I hope all clients feel the compassion I bring to our work.

I believe in a humanistic approach to therapy; I believe the focus of therapy is and should be the client. The techniques that I use in therapy will depend specifically on need and presenting issue. I largely use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is founded on the belief that our thoughts impact our feelings which then impact our behavior. By addressing our thoughts thoroughly, we are able to adjust them begin changing behaviors that are unhelpful.

Since my internship, I have loved working with children and adolescents. Their unique perspective allows them to discuss difficulties in their lives honestly and without inhibition.

The children and adolescents I have worked with have had behavioral issues in school, trauma, general anxiety and difficulties expressing emotions appropriately. When I work with minors, I begin the process with a discussion with the parent or guardian. Once I have determined the needs of the client and family, I will establish a positive relationship before addressing the presenting needs.
